Learn more about mechanical circuit support systems
The number of patients with heart failure is rising steadily in Germany, with over 300,000 new cases every year.
Terminal heart failure is a major challenge, especially in view of the limited availability of donor organs. Mechanical circulatory support systems (MCS) are becoming increasingly important here.
Short-term MCS, such as Impella, are mainly used for acute heart failure and cardiogenic shock, but also as part of the “protected cardiac surgery” concept for high-risk patients. The long-term MCS systems, such as the HeartMate 3, offer an important option for patients who require long-term support.
Every year, the DHZC treats over 350 patients with short-term MCS and over 120 with long-term systems and is not only the leading center in Germany, but worldwide.
We offer an event as a lunch symposium (two dates) or evening event (one date) with the following content:
- Short-term MCS for Impella and cardiogenic shock patients
- Indication and treatment strategies for cardiogenic shock patients, device selection and weaning
- Hands-on station
2. Long-term MCS therapy with an LVAD system
- Patient selection and preparation, intra- and post-operative care
- Experience reports and current study results on quality of life and long-term prognosis.
The lunch symposium can be held during the lunch break (duration: 45-60 min, two consecutive sessions). One topic (short-term and the next long-term systems) will be presented and discussed. During the evening event, both topics are presented and discussed. If possible, the clinic’s referring physicians should also attend.
Both events will be accompanied by catering.
The DHZB Academy will coordinate and organize the catering on site. There are no expenses for you.
As soon as we have agreed a date with you, the training will be certified by the ÄK. The symposia will be conducted by Prof. Evgenij Potapov, head of the DHZC’s MCS program, or by one of his colleagues if a sudden scheduling conflict arises. The event will be held on site at your clinic and the dates will be flexibly adapted to your schedule.
